After being asked if he had any advice for young photographers, Magnum photographer Alex Soth thought it would be cool to email his Magnum colleagues with the same question. The 35 different responses was published on the Magnum Photos blog in 2008. I thought it inspiring enough to revisit it here.
It was while discussing photography books with photographer Martin Parr when he encouraged me to seek out the work of his colleague at Magnum, Sergio Larrain. His classic book, ‘Valparaiso’ may be difficult to find, but at least you can get some idea as to how extraordinary this work is here:
FotoFreo 2012 Photographic Project: Magnum photographer Martin Parr was brought to Western Australia by FotoFreo Festival Director Bob Hewitt to photograph three major port cities, Fremantle, Broome and Port Hedland. I went along to document the Broome and Port Hedland legs of the project.
