“While not all photobooks considered great or groundbreaking will see a reprint, one can hope that enough will exist to maintain a full sense of photobook history” – Jeffrey Ladd, photographer, writer, editor and founder of Errata Editions
The Atlantic In Focus – Japan Earthquake: Before and After
“In just over two weeks, Japan will be observing the one-year anniversary of the disastrous magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that struck its east coast in March of 2011. The destruction was unprecedented and the loss of life and property were staggering — more than 15,800 are confirmed dead, with another 3,300 still listed as missing nearly a year later. Photographers documented the many faces of this tragedy and have now returned to give us a look at the difference a year can make, re-shooting places that were photographed during and immediately after the quake. Collected here are 20 of these pairings. They are interactive: Starting with number 2, click the images to view a fading before/after comparison.” – The Atlantic In Focus with Alan Taylor – Japan Earthquake: Before and After

March 11, 2012 will mark the first anniversary of the massive tsunami that pummeled Japan. (Toshifumi Kitamura/AFP/Getty Images)

Advice to Young Photographers: Wear Good Shoes
After being asked if he had any advice for young photographers, Magnum photographer Alex Soth thought it would be cool to email his Magnum colleagues with the same question. The 35 different responses was published on the Magnum Photos blog in 2008. I thought it inspiring enough to revisit it here.

A wonderful insight into the work of one of photography’s most influential masters, William Klein:
Tokyo Documentary Photography Workshops
James Whitlow Delano, Okahara Kosuke and Yumi Goto are friends of mine.
I feel confidant that anyone attending this 5 day workshop will see a marked
improvement in their work by the end of it.

The Nikon D800
I am unashamedly a Nikon Ambassador. I would not have agreed to become one if I did not have complete faith in the brand. I love the fact that Nikon asks us what we want, then listen to what we have to say. First the D4, and now the newly announced D800, (the specs of which are mind blowing). Emphas.is – Trading to Extinction
“Day by day, hour by hour, our planet’s rarest creatures are being hunted, trapped and slaughtered to feed a global black market in wildlife products” - Emphas.is – Trading to Extinction
Patrick Brown has been a good friend of mine for over twenty years. I know how much heart he has brought to this amazing body of work.
“Emphas.is has decided to partner up with one of the world’s leading printers in Italy to publish high-quality photo books. By pre-ordering a copy, you decide if a book will get done”.

Not having shot a roll of film since 2006, I feel like I played some small Shakespearean part in Kodak’s demise. C’est la vie.

Valparaiso: Sergio Larrain
It was while discussing photography books with photographer Martin Parr when he encouraged me to seek out the work of his colleague at Magnum, Sergio Larrain. His classic book, ‘Valparaiso’ may be difficult to find, but at least you can get some idea as to how extraordinary this work is here:
